The “Ars Monumentum Natura” Association (AMN) has signed the implementation contract for the “Focus on Active Ageing” project (2025-2-RO01-KA122-ADU-000379091), funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme, Key Action 1 – Mobility in the field of adult education.
The project will run from April 1 to September 30, 2026. It stems from a real, local need identified during the period leading up to the application submission. Adults, particularly those over 50, need spaces and projects through which they can remain active, learn new things, and connect with people of different ages. In an area marked by an ageing population and limited access to continuing education — especially in rural or small urban settings — we set out to create concrete opportunities tailored to the everyday lives of people who are approaching retirement.
In the first phase, three AMN team members will take part in a seven-day training course in Denmark. There, they will become familiar with practical methods regarding active ageing, adaptation to the current digital world, and ecological education for seniors — approaches that Danish society has been successfully applying for some time. Denmark is one of the European leaders in addressing active ageing, drawing on a social model that combines individual responsibility with collective support. There are active retraining programmes for employees over 50, employers are encouraged through tax incentives to retain senior employees, and the concept of “flexicurity” allows smooth transitions between jobs at any age.
The experience gained in Denmark will form the basis for the development of three pilot modules, designed specifically for adults aged 50+, which will subsequently be delivered in Sibiu and the surrounding areas:
- Digital storytelling workshops, in which participants will transform their memories and experiences into written or audio stories;
- Community gardening activities, through which we will rediscover the connection with nature and apply simple ecological practices;
- Practical sessions on maintaining an active, balanced, and healthy lifestyle after the age of 50.
The modules will be tested free of charge with at least 50 participants from the county and will include intergenerational meetings. We believe that the exchange of experience between young people and seniors can become a driver of social cohesion, and the project aims to actively encourage this in particular.
Through “Focus on Active Ageing”, the association will strengthen its capacity to provide educational contexts aimed at adults and will initiate an open discussion, available to all, on the topic of “How do we prepare for retirement?”
In line with the priorities of the Erasmus+ programme — inclusion and diversity, green transition, digitalisation, and active civic participation — the association aims to champion the idea that ageing is not a social burden, but a resource of experience.
At the end of the project implementation, we expect the AMN team to be better equipped to respond to this specific type of local need. Through the collection of life stories, told by the participants themselves and presented at events in Sibiu and the surrounding area, we invite you to stay connected with our project and its outcomes.
